Common Signs and Symptoms of low testosterone

Fatigue

Low testosterone may cause a noticeable drop in energy levels. A hormonal imbalance could be the culprit if you're consistently tired throughout the day despite getting enough sleep. Testosterone therapy has helped many individuals boost their energy levels significantly.

Weight gain, especially around the belly

Testosterone plays a crucial role in muscle development. Insufficient levels can hinder muscle growth, increasing fat accumulation as muscle tissue burns more calories than fat. Due to this imbalance, men with low testosterone often experience weight gain, primarily around the belly and hips.

Mental fog and concentration difficulties

Research indicates that testosterone supplementation can enhance memory. This hormone influences several bodily functions, including cognitive abilities like focus and clarity. Additionally, the stress and interpersonal challenges stemming from low testosterone can further impact mental focus.

Reduced libido

Although a decline in sexual interest is common with age, low testosterone can cause a more pronounced decrease. This condition can also lead to other health issues like hair loss and erectile dysfunction, further affecting sexual desire.

Mood changes: depression, irritability, or anxiety

Low testosterone can lead to various mood disturbances. Hormonal imbalances often contribute to feelings of depression and anxiety. The fatigue associated with low testosterone can exacerbate these mood issues.

Muscle mass reduction

Testosterone is essential for muscle building. Low levels can result in muscle loss, which may also increase fat accumulation.

Increased hair loss

While some hair loss is expected with aging, a sudden increase in hair shedding can be linked to low testosterone levels.

TRT 101

What is Testosterone?

Testosterone is a hormone primarily produced in the testicles and is crucial for maintaining muscle mass, bone density, fat distribution, red blood cell production, sex drive, sperm production, libido and mental health wellness. It is produced in the testes and regulated by the hypothalamus and pituitary gland.

Did you know...

Testosterone reaches its peak during puberty and begins to decline by age 30. Unfortunately, in the past 20 years, we have seen a decline in men's testosterone levels never witnessed before in history.   Contributing factors include chronic health issues like diabetes or obesity, certain medications such as corticosteroids, and physical trauma.

What is TRT?

Why choose Citrine Aesthetics medical providers?

Testosterone therapy for men is a medical treatment designed to supplement or replace the body's natural production of testosterone.   If your levels are low, this is a condition called hypogonadism.  Safely administered testosterone therapy can help improve the symptoms listed above.
